  • Match weights/richness of food and the body of the wine
  • Match the flavour of both food and wine e.g. herbal, spicy, creamy
  • Match acidic food with acidic wine
  • Match sweet foods with sweet wine
  • Match foods with their regional wine, if in doubt
  • Match red meats with highly tannic red wines
  • Match salty food with sweet, high acid wine (opposites attract here)
  • Match spicy foods with spicy wines
  • Match delicate food with delicate, fragrant wine.
  • Do not drink highly tannic red wines with oily/salty foods. Drink high acid, white wines instead
  • Think about your meal(dish) and it’s ingredients and then treat your wine like an additional flavour. This helps you to choose the best wine
  • If cooking food in a wine based sauce, try and drink the same wine.
