Shiraz / Syrah
(she-raz/si-rar)
|
Syrah is grown originally in the Rhône Valley, France (Hermitage) and many New World countries have adopted this grape e.g. Australia, South Africa etc; naming the grape Shiraz, as the name was originally derived from. |

Flavours of raspberry, plums and aromas of pepper, spice, chocolate and forest floor earth! Bitter tannins dominate but balance with the heavy weight of the wine, producing a powerful, intense and very drinkable wine. These subtle flavours vary enormously depending on the region and the country, as well as the age of the wine. |

Rich and dark purple in colour. |

Very well priced grape variety for the standard of wines produced. New World Shiraz wines tend to be fruitier and higher in tannins; these range from £5 upwards. The most expensive are Hermitage, Côte Rôtie (France) and also there are some award winning, very expensive Australian examples. |

Super with big flavoured foods which match this intense wine. BBQs, spicy foods, and any red meats match very well indeed. |
