Gewürztraminer
(ger-verts-tramina)
Affectionately known as Gewurz, its true home is in Alsace, France. However, other cool regions in New Zealand, Australia and Chile have been experimenting and producing some very fine examples. |
This is one of the most aromatic grape varieties in the world! Gewurz actually translates as ‘spiced’ in German. Flavours and aromas of pepper, spice, lychees, roses, cashew nuts, blossom and honeysuckle predominate. These all combine with high alcohol to give a full-bodied, rich and powerfully fragrant wine. |

A slight hint of pink to the wine (not rose), otherwise very pale. |

Very reasonably priced as it isn’t hugely popular..which it should be! However there are some incredible top of the range examples with higher price tags. |

Fantastically matched to Asian food e.g. Chinese, Thai etc, where the cuisine is highly flavoured and fragrant. Also good to accompany smoked fish, like smoked salmon, or cheese. |
