Marks and Spencers Wine

Central Italy

by Tracy on May 27, 2010

(Tuscany, Umbria, Marche and Abruzzo)

Classic Styles:

  • Light to full-bodied, cherry tart and violet scented reds
  • Dry, neutral whites
  • Sweet, apricot and nutty whites

Grape Varieties:

  • Sangiovese (grape used to make the infamous Chianti Classico)
  • Montepulciano
  • Trebbiano (reds)
  • Verdicchio
  • Vernaccia (whites)

Must Tastes:

  • Chianti Classico (main classic Chianti region)
  • Chianti Ruffina
  • Chianti Colli Senesi
  • Brunello di Montalcino
  • Rosso di Montalcino (bought ready to drink. It is less aged and therefore cheaper than Brunello, but of superb quality and allows you an insight into the beauty of Brunello for half the price!)
  • Vino Nobile di Montepulciano
  • Montepulciano di Abruzzo
  • Orvieto
  • Frascati
  • Verdicchio
  • Vernaccia di San Gimignano
  • Vin Santo (sweet, holy wine)
